Mourning / Grief

My Minnie
by
D. Terese Leonard

Reddish brown satin
Sliding round her long body
Like silk stockings on a shapely leg
Shining and intelligent, deep brown eyes
Soften when she’s resting in the sunshine
A slight curve to her lips seem to smile content
Seated primly beside me
Calmly confident, waiting for the expected
share of tasty treat
and if I delay
bright, steady gaze imprisons mine
full of assured expectation
a silent, regal demand
and I comply, smiling while
sliding my hand down the
length of her silky back
her warmth warming my spirit with hers
were but she immortal and I never alone again
like today with only poignant memories
