Mourning / Grief

Just A Box
by Sarah Deans

It means so much to those who know
Exactly what is down below
A stone covers the top you see
Just ordinary ground for you and me

There was someone beneath the ground I walked on
did they feel it even though they'd gone?
It's just a box to me
but, to someone else it's more you see

it's hard to understand why a box means so much to them
Until that person in the box is someone that you love
A never thought a box would mean so much to me
but in that box is the ashes of the only person I've ever really loved.

Her ashes as I speak are getting blown by the wind
Her ashes getting eaten by the worms that live below
So when I knelt and grieved at her grave side
why did I hear a voice saying,
"Sarah, it's just a box."
