Mourning / Grief

A Simple Kiss?
by Sally Jasper

Had you known it was yet our last moment ever
Would but a simple kiss suffice?
Perhaps a suitable demise?
Unrelished by the thought of some missed fervour
Or did I fail to realise?

Was I blind?
Did you herald some subtle sign from the depths of your mind?
Did that one kiss behold a special message?
Perhaps a hidden passage with your hearts key
Was it me? Did I not see?

Did I fail you?
Did you fail me?
Many many an unanswered question
Burns wildly in my souls memory retention
You – the sole unkindler now long gone
And my soul’s fire burns, my soul – sorely unwhole

Will I never know?
Was it intentional that you left me so?
Till you show me a sign, don’t dare go
Release me from this burden
These epileptic images surging and resurging
Unhurt me, unchain me, unkindle it – Set me free!
