She Believes She'll Be Leaving
by Don Lewis

He told her he loved her with all of his heart
She told him the same right from the start
She told him that she would believe in him
Every day right up to the bitter end
With her heart full of fluttering butterflies
He was the sparkle lighting up her eyes
The first year together seemed to pass by so quick
Late Into their third year they argued a bit
By their fifth anniversary she knew it was wrong
But for some unknown reason she tried to hang on
Words became pain to her heart, which was frail
Their loud fighting one night landed him into jail
The officers asked her if she’d be all right
She answered by saying this was our first fight
Though he didn’t touch her she was so scared
But with no where to turn she waited right there
In the evening the next day he finally returned
She only hopped with a lesson he maybe had learned
But his eyes were on fire and his breath reeked of beer
As he stood in the doorway asking why was she here
She couldn’t tell him what the pregnancy test read
The time wasn’t right so she just cried instead
He told her he loved her with all of his heart
She told him she thought that they should now part
She told him that she would be leaving him
For with this day had come the bitter end
She finally found the strength that she would need
To gather her self and begin to succeed
She once told him that she would believe in him
Now she’s told him that she’ll be leaving him
