Peering into the water, foamy waves leaping high, I sit here peering, almost fearing, I may see thee nigh. ‘Twas not so long ago, I left thee here, full of cheer, After we vowed, promised aloud, to be together here.
I went out to sea, the ship to sail, out to the bay. When I returned, I was stunned, knew not what to say. As I found upon the ground, our prints so tenderly. Before the tide swiftly caught you, and took you out to sea.
So I kneel here near our spot, though it’s been long ago . . . I whisper softly to the stars, tall and lofty, as the wind doth softly blow. True love we shared, our souls we bared, on that moonlit night. We vowed we’d be together forever, now a lonely sight.
If you’re in the sea, come to me; My soul will go back with you. I am grieved, so bereaved, I know not what to do. Comfort ‘twould be far less, I must confess, to let me linger on. For in the sea, just you and me, is where I belong.
So I kneel on still, Praying you will come back to me. Though it should be dark as night, I’ll see the light, when thee I see. So twain we’ll be, ‘til all eternity, in Heaven there above. I shall wait here, for you my dear, mine own true love. |
