Friend In Need
by
Teresa Patterson

I heard them say a friend in need
is a very good friend indeed,
but when the distress is no longer
and the needy is much stronger,
your embrace is not in need…
I missed you, Love, I did indeed…

I heard say a friend in need
is a very good friend indeed,
but when the tears are gone and dried,
please don’t ask me why I cried…
Your sympathy is not in need.
I cried for you, I did indeed…

I was once a friend in need,
and had you, my friend, indeed…
I reached out to touch your hand,
and hoped that you would understand,
I need you through the night to lead.
You weren’t there, my friend in need…

But I love you as you are,
you’re in my heart, near or far…
I’ll forever hold your hand,
and I will try to understand
that I am alone in my need.
I’ll always love you. I will indeed…
