A Perfect Love
by John Bates

What is a perfect love, I asked.
The teacher turned and smiled.
To find a perfect love, he said,
You must become a child

The secret way a child will know,
To find this perfect love.
As like a pure, unblemished snow,
Innocent as a dove.

It’s faith that makes a perfect love,
A faith we grown-ups lack.
A child knows how to trust in God,
They never will look back.

Unless we walk in faith with Him,
We cannot know a perfect love.
A perfect love, the teacher said,
Only comes from up above.
