After The Sunset
by Pearlie Duncan Walker

Just after the sunset ~ when all is peaceful and quiet ~
We’re watching the glow in a cloud ~ just before twilight ~
Puts a warmness inside my heart ~ like with the world ~ all is right
Cattle softly lowing in the barn ~ people settling in for the night.
Pigeons beginning to roost ~ birds’ quiet ~ nesting away.
Little fluffy tails ~ with nuts in their jaws ~ calling it a day.
Moons out ~ stars shining brightly to light the way in the night.
Ole Sol’s gone on now ~ way on out of sight.
The opossums and raccoons will have a great delight ~
Feasting on leftovers of what people didn’t eat tonight.
Foxes coming up toward the familiar chicken coop
Hoping they don’t have the bad luck to run into the noose’s loop.
Soon the moon and all the stars are gone again . . .
Animals scurrying for shelter ~ ole Sol’s back from where it’s been.
Children rising up ~ birds looking for food ~ chirping loudly now . . .
Just life’s way of coping ~ all getting by somehow.
Morning brings on work ~ for every family member . . .
Milking cows ~ dish washing ~ lessons to remember.
Plowing fields ~ cooking dinner ~ visiting a sick neighbor now.
All things going past ~ that we all like to remember ~ somehow.
