Life and Time

Military Child
by
Sharon Munday

She crossed the seas for many years, lived on many lands
From isolated camps of fear, and freedom of the sands
And many tales she may have told, instead she soon forgot
Her childhood left so far behind, a past destined to rot.

Visions of so many things, true wonders of the world
Memories of cherished times instead remain unfurled
Within the darkness of the depths, mere figments of her dreams
The cherished image of a child, remain to be unseen

Taboo to make a caring friend, for fate foretold of pain
Grasping for a little love, her heart would break again
And so she learnt so very young to build a private wall
A personal enclosure that protected every fall

And though she traveled oceans and had lived on many lands
Her innocence was taken to be washed upon sands
And now she's started searching with the hope that she may find
The little girl lost long ago still trapped within her mind.
