I Became My Dad Today
by Tom Krause

I became my dad today
when my son looked at me that way.
The look was on his face -
there could be no mistake
When my son looked at me that way
I became my dad today.

I became my dad today
when I sang that song that way.
The voice I had heard before
as a child sitting on the floor.
When I sang that song that way
I became my dad today.

I became my dad today
when the mirror looked that way.
The wrinkles on my face
gray hair just a trace.
When the mirror looked that way
I became my dad today.

I became my dad today
when she held my hand that way.
The feeling of the touch
just reminded me so much.
When she held my hand that way
I became my dad today.
