Life and Time

Grassy Banks
by
D. Terese Leonard

All the fields and meadows were aglow
with the light of the sun and the life within.
The skies were as clear blue
as your eyes would be on a day like today.

As I walked down the shaded lane,
I could hear the whispering trees and rustling grass.
There was a little narrow lane covered with powder-fine dirt
and the trees from each side embraced over top.

The only other sounds were of bird's wings
and gentle sighs from the earth.
It all seemed so quiet,
yet so musical.

The water changed colors with the rocks it covered,
and you could stand there and become a part of it.
I stood there and let the water tickle my feet
while tingly sensations ran the full length of my body.

And suddenly, you would be walking only a stone's throw away,
laughing, brandishing your stick in the air.
How could I relate any of this to anyone?
I could only breath, "My God, it is beautiful here."
