I dreamt last night that the world was at peace And it all began right here with me. I was in a strange land, far, far away And a man with a turban called out to me: “Shalom, my brother, shalom.”
A boy who didn’t look at all like I do Had a smile that was just like by son’s. He carried the Torah, gripped in his hand And the little boy called out to me: “Salaam, my uncle, salaam.”
Her clothes were different from those that I wear, And she didn’t look very much like me. I was in yet another far away land; The kimono-clad woman said softly to me, “Pyung hwa, my brother, pyung hwa.”
His uniform was not at all like my own, And his features were from over the sea. He looked like a soldier from some foreign land, But he laid down his gun, and he called out to me, “Peace, my brother, peace.”
I made peace with my brother, and then we were two, And we called on our brothers to join us. Peace in our world began here today, And it spread on the winds of aloha. “Maluhia, my sister, maluhia.”
There are dozens of wars all over the globe, And world peace seems so far away. If we could but lay down our guns and embrace, We could greet our brothers in their own special way, “Maluhia, my brother, maluhia.”
Shalom, salaam, maluhia, pace, Paz, mi amigo; heiwa, they say. Shalom, salaam, maluhia, pace, I dreamt that the world was at peace today. |
