Thanksgiving Day
by
Linda Coker

There's a lamb in the kitchen
Knocking biscuits to the floor
And she's prancing, hopping, bleating
As we chase her out the door

There's a turkey in the oven
And the guests are due at noon
Old Auntie's started smiling
As she licks the batter spoon

The leaves have started drifting
As the wind whips in the snow
The little critters scurry
To their warm and earthy holes

Our Grandpa's outside herding
Cows and sheep and horses in
Mom is fetching Sammy home
From playing with his best friends

We set up several tables
To make room for everyone
And pull out cards and dominoes
For the after dinner fun

Tantalizing aromas
And the weather make me smile
Anticipating family
That we've not seen for a while

Thanksgiving Day has started
And we're all so thankful for
The gifts of God we all share
In our farmhouse near the shore
