Holidays and Seasons

Thanksgiving
by Von E. Weeks

What should we cherish as we enjoy this wonderful day?
What blessings would you give up if some were going away?

Would you give up the shoes or clothes that keep you nice and warm?
Would you give up the roof that shelters and protects you from a storm?

Would you give up you’re health, in the blink of an eye?
Would you give up you’re wealth without a prolonged cry?

Would you give up you’re passion to give love for others?
Would you give up the relationship with sisters or brothers?

Would you give up the rights that are given to each citizen of the USA?
Would you give up the privilege to lounge around the house on a vacation day?

Would you give up the opportunity to take a shower whenever you like?
Would you give up the magical moment of receiving a hug from a small tike?

Would you give up the knowledge that comes to our homes through a television?
Would you give up you’re right to join with other in making an election decision?

Would you give up the benefit of buying your food from a grocery store?
Would you give up your life for fellow citizens in a liberating war?

Would you give up the life sustaining love of a wonderful spouse?
Would go to a nursing home surrendering the independence of your house?

Each of us has many things that we take for granted every single day of our life.
We take little time to be thankful for our many blessings but linger on life’s strife.

I challenge everyone, no matter how bad a lot life has cast at their feet.
Look at your blessings then tell me life hasn’t given you something sweet.

As you wade though all the traditions that brings you to the Thanksgiving meal and prayer.
Please acknowledge to God, Friends, and Family things to be thankful for are everywhere.

May each of us look at the good fortune that permeates throughout our existence on earth!
Then lets us pause and remember that the little blessings of life are of the most value and worth.
