A Christmas Party by Brian Lund | It’s quiet in town The snow laden boughs are down It’s that time of year Christmas is here The moon now is set In the air that is wet Family is calling As snow begins falling Doors flung open wide In a bitter cold night Greeting shared outside Under a snow lit light Scarves are shed Of warmth of fire heat Cheeks are red From cold that numbs the feet Warmth brings relief Of chattering teeth From cold bearing the wreath Made with ever-green leaves There’s mistletoe Made with ivy and holly Under it kissing is slow Everyone is jolly Dare I beg mention To stay with convention How the cookies are baking Are ours for the taking Pie’s all sliced That’s apple and spice There’s sweet pumpkin log To eat with eggnog Coffee’s all hot Brewing in a pot Aroma is strong Let’s begin with a song
All hearts are unite In this eve of night But don’t grow slumber Of the untold number
Who go without And have no joy We say with no doubt God bless these girls and boys What a wonderful season No grudges to bear Who know the true reason Why Christ came here
What is the key To make this season glee For that matter any time To continue with rhyme It’s family and friends Who make the season bright Now we’re nearing the end Of this jovial night Outside still snowing The blitzing storm Driv’n o’r fields are white and glowing Snow blankets all frozen forms Rooftops displaying The chimney smoke’s playing In the mad nor’ winds blow With a tumultuous flow The eave shows her art As the water changes phase And her underside dark Gleams icicles with crystal glaze Windows enduring The frost’s frolic luring Yielding her heat To his frosty sheet The end of a poem All family returned home The flickering lights Signal the end of this night It’s quiet in town The snow laden boughs are down All is still Merry Christmas, peace, and goodwill | Brian Lund Copyright 1991 |
