Christmas Eve Dreaming by Travis Brasell | It’s Christmas Eve night and the snow’s falling hard, A blanket of white will soon spread o’er our yard. We know in our hearts that before break of day The snow will be marked with the tracks of a sleigh.
While sleeping tonight, after drinking your milk, Your cheek will be brushed with a beard soft as silk; No matter what others may think about this, We know girls and boys get a sweet Christmas kiss.
Your eyes will be closed but you’ll see in your dreams A castle on clouds made of marshmallow creams, And candy canes hanging from stars way up high, And sugar plum fairies that dance in the sky.
You’ll laugh in your sleep when you hear what is said By elves to St. Nick in his suit of bright red. They’ll fly through the night in a sleigh past the stars, And circle the planets of Venus and Mars.
While under your covers you’ll hold out your hand And pluck juicy pears in a magical land. You’ll taste yummy cakes baked a rich, golden brown By gingerbread men in a gingerbread town.
Your ears, while you’re sleeping, will hear the bells tingle On eight reindeer pulling the sleigh of Kris Kringle. You’ll say, “Was it real?” when you open your eyes And run to the window to look at the skies.
All dreams are as real as we want them to be, And good things are real, as one day you will see; So sleep, my dear child, on this Christmas Eve night, And you might find sleigh-tracks in snow’s winter white! | Travis Brasell Copyright 1979 |
