As Americans we’ll celebrate a special holiday! It’s our tribute of blessings received everyday! Once a year we gather as families and give thanks, It’s done by both the wealthy and the common ranks. We fill dinner tables with food that is our very best, Sometimes we invite special friends to be our guests, Hopefully our family traditions cause us to find the time, To say grateful thanks to God before the dinner chime. As we look at all the bounties of our American life, Despite our numerous setbacks, sorrows, and strife. Do we remember each rite, privilege and blessing? As we ingest the pungent aroma of the tables dressing? Do we inwardly ponder how wonderful it is to be free? During this special time of year, are we truly able to see? When we look at the bounty spread upon our kitchen table, Do we acknowledge that it’s God that has made us able. As we look around at family gathered for our dinner feast, Do we recognize God gives us each moment that we lease? As we look at all the lavish blessings arrayed before us, Do we toss aside the things that cause us to fret and fuss? Realizing that it is moments like these that make life great, It is good friends and family that make life a splendid state. These are just some of the things we should be thankful for, May we each be grateful for all we have, asking for no more? Gratefully acknowledging that our lives are very richly blessed, As amazing images and smells flow off the golden turkey breast. May we joyously consume the delicious morsels of every kind? Recognizing this is but a few of blessings God gives to mankind. Soak in each of the marvelous blessings this holiday denotes, And try not to overeat until your stomach completely bloats. Acknowledge the costly sacrifice of those who came before, Recognizing your blessings are because of ideals they fought for. May we feast in thankfulness for each bounty received! Concluding by giving God credit for all we’ve achieved. After you feel your heart is about to burst with gratitude, It will be then we achieve a “Living Thanksgiving” attitude. |
