What Will He Learn From Me?
by Von E. Weeks

I have a boy, who is only nine,
I’m so thankful this boy is mine.
The name we gave him is James,
He has a temper like red-hot flames.
His eye color is a pail sky blue,
His smile is an exquisite view.
He has closely cropped brown hair,
He would follow me anywhere.
James loves food with a passion,
But he doesn’t care about fashion.
He loves sports played with a ball,
As a grownup he wants to be tall.
He listens to every word I speak,
I see my traits in him once a week.
As I look at his continuing evolution,
My desires for him gather resolution.
He is limited only by what I teach,
My example is far better then speech.
He’s becoming a man like it or not,
Now is the time his course to plot.
Every trait he learns while young,
Will reveal who he is as time is sprung.
How many traits will he have from me?
Will these traits lead him to be happy?
As James evolves into a young man,
I want him to be more that tall and tan.
I want him to have a tender side,
I want him to find a treasured bride.
I hope he comes to love Christ the Lord,
May integrity be his personal sword?
I pray that I teach him how to work,
And that joy in life is a treasured perk.
I pray he will strive to choose the right.
I pray he will be filled by Gods light.
I care not, if he has power or wealth,
I pray he may enjoy vigorous health.
So as I choose each of my actions today,
I consider the fruit that they might sway.
