Remembering My Mother
by Bernard Howe

'Tis a dark and gloomy day,
the sky is dark a dismal gray.
As the wind chills me to the bone,
I hear the sound of a bagpipe drone.

Slowly we follow for this is the end
soon the casket will begin to descend.
Down deep in the ground it comes to rest
with a hand full of dirt we give her our best.

Memories of mom are now all we possess
life must go on, as our sorrows suppress.
For her pains are no longer for she is at rest
taken to heaven for she has been blessed.

I hope she is smiling as she watches me here
remembering her lessons while furthering my career.
Her family must be happy for now they're united
and my belief in all this makes me excited.

My brothers and I are lucky we had
a mother like her along with our dad.
Life's a big lesson which she taught us so well
right up until the day she bid us farewell.
