Mother Dear
by Ben Ash

She is standing there
With her diploma held tightly in her hand
She smiles now
But I alone know how she feels inside

She glances out
Scanning the faces of everyone in the crowd
But she’s not there
And I know inside it tears her apart

She never came around for her
When she needed her the most
And she left her alone to face her life
When she should have been held close
And she never knew

She died inside without her mother there
Growing girl in life so full of fear
And from her eyes she caused so many tears
And she simply longed to hold her mother dear

She had walked out
Leaving her whole life and family behind
She left them all
And the whole world around them came crashing down

The alcohol
Poured so thick you could cut it with a knife
And she tried just that
And it took her best friend to save her life

She never came around for her
When she needed her the most
And she left her alone to face her life
When she should have been held close
And so I held

She died inside each day a little more
Grown girl ready to walk out the door
Looking back into the face she wished she could adore
And all she finds is she misses her even more

She died inside without her mother there
Grown girl facing life so full of fear
Ill dry your eyes she left so full of tears
But you will always miss your mother dear
