MAMA
by Sally Jasper

Mama, when you stared what did you see?
You relied on the memories in images of your minds eye
Colourful flash backs or pretty visions, did you see me?
From up high there can you tell, did your minds eye lie?

And I styled your hair mama, did you know?
When I stared at you sleeping, did my heart show?
And I polished your nails
Did I polish the colours of your hearts desires?
Did I get it right? Did you know from your soul's sight?

If I could traverse backwards in time to way back then
I would ask, I would listen, I would learn, I would?
I would sit by your side, be older and wiser, I would?
For today, your thoughts, your words, I yearn

My father's lips are exactly like yours in physical
Mama, this is all I have left, the rest is mythical
A picture in my mind, perhaps flash backs of the past
These will have to live in my heart forever

Mama, I wish not to stir your eternal slumber
Just to try and let my father's mother know that I am
Now older and can remember
That I cherish her memory, the mental picture
Is precious and will never leave nor cease to be or crease
Mama, today hear my heart cry out while you rest in peace.
