At 4:55 a.m. in pre-dawn hours, the day following Labor Day, our phone roared with vengeance. A vendetta that sent alarm throughout our bedroom.
Panic stretched and extended across the phone lines from Memphis, Tennessee. Anxiety responded to my tense hello.
"Mom." "Yes, Son." "My apartment complex is burning. I'm toast." "What?" My voice no longer tense. "My balcony just collapsed. I'm toast." "Are you OK?" "I'm fine-no injuries." "Are you by yourself?" "No, we are all here watching our possessions go up in smoke." He still had his sense of humor-but slow with this joke.
So many lives this fire affected. Their history-ashes now.
But God cradled them in His love, and spared everyone-no one hurt, no fatalities.
Our God is an awesome God. He spared these precious lives, and He spared our first born son.
Our God is Superior and Grand! I'm sure they all know this now. Their relatives and families know it for sure. They are grateful God held them in His hand. |
