When I was small The happiest times that I recall Was not when playing with my toy's 'Nor thing's that bring other kids joy It wasn't playing with my pets But trying to follow in "Daddy's footsteps"
He always kept a steady pace Yet for me it was like a foot race And though he was never out of sight He kept a look back to make sure I was alright He seemed to have a smile on his face As if he were proud I'd joined in his race
As time went by and my legs grew strong It seemed I didn't have to walk behind Patience was the one thing I didn't try To walk with Daddy by his side
But now those times are all gone My task in life has been done And as I look back to see him there I know the love he must have felt 'Cause now Daddy's slowly walking in "My footsteps".
