"You won't want to put it down... Mere Chance is one of those books that once you start, you
won't want to do anything but find out what happens next. This is a GREAT American story..."

DAD
by Von E. Weeks

From the time I was a very little lad,
I’ve had a special place in my heart for my DAD.

He’s not the type of person who talks a lot;
But the treasures he gave me can not be bought.

Throughout my life, he has supported me like a pillar of stone;
Quietly assuring me, I wasn’t making life’s journey alone.

As my memory floats back to the time when I was a boy;
Tagging along with dear old DAD was my greatest joy.

I was his shadow, constantly following him every place;
Strength, character, and love constantly radiated from his face.

For me, it was my DAD who was the hero of my youth;
Through his example I learned courage, strength, and truth.

‘Twas while listening to him read the scriptures to me,
I gained illuminating glimpses of my eternal destiny.

The importance of hard work was learned while working at his side;
He taught me success comes from craftsmanship and an inner pride.

Like the Saviour taught us, he never just walked one mile, but two;
If he undertook a task, he could be counted on until it was through.

He always demanded that I continually give nothing but my best;
DAD taught me to attack life’s challenges with vigor and zest.

It was through his example; I saw service to others in action;
I learned that giving of oneself brings an inner satisfaction.

The years have passed quickly by; I’ve become a DAD myself;
I treasure the gifts he gave to me, more than any earthly wealth.

Now it’s my turn, to teach my children what God wants them to be;
I hope I can be a pillar of strength for them, like my DAD was to me.
