Youth Eternal
by David G. Bancroft

Looking at the face of the tired old soul,
one wonders what must be thought
about what has transpired
over the so many years.

Hearing the sigh escape through the pressed lips
reminds of the mistakes that may still haunt,
while the crinkled smile that follows could be
about the good deeds that more than supplant.

Yet, the eyes with color of life still bright,
remain open and very aware,
never wavering in their stare,
defying the frail age.

It is obvious that the mind still reaches for more,
even though its shell is at death's door,
giving solace that youth returns eternal
once beyond the earthly stay.
