The Purpose of Life
by James H. Lee Jr.

Before this earth's creation,
Six thousand years ago,
We lived in Father's presence,
Surrounded by His glow,
And we were taught eternal truths,
So one day we may be
Like Him and like the Savior,
For all eternity.

We loved our Heavenly Father,
And loved the Savior, too,
And also loved each other,
And promised to be true
To all that Father taught us,
Which He was glad to share,
With we, His sons and daughters,
And love was spoken there.

We wanted to be like Him,
Because we loved Him so,
But there were things we had to learn
To help our spirits grow,
We also needed a body
To house our spirits here,
Which also needed to be schooled
By friends and loved ones dear.

And so He placed us here on earth
To see if we'd be true
To all the things He asked us,
While here on earth to do,
And sent forth Holy Prophets
To share the Gospel plan,
Ordained by God, the Father,
To help ennoble man.

He also sent the Savior
To show us how to live,
And also to atone for sins,
And teach us to forgive
The faults and failings of others
Who are God's children, too,
So we could also be forgiven
For wrongful things we do.

Our lifespan may be short or long,
And what we do while here,
Will thus determine what we'll do
In heaven's atmosphere,
When life for us is over,
And all is said and done,
And we must give accounting
To God's Beloved Son.

Oh may our life's ambition
Be to be like Father dear,
And like the Savior, Jesus Christ,
And live His Gospel here,
So we may be found worthy
Of what He has in store,
True joy forever after,
And life forevermore.
