Swaddling Clothes
by Dot McGinnis

Santolina represents swaddling clothes,
Its smell is sweet, it caresses the nose.

Know as “Cotton Lavender,“ and “Holy Flax,”
It’s the herb of fair linen, a drying rack.

Legend tells on the night He was born,
This herb formed a circle and thus adorned,

The Christ Child’s head to crown Him as King?
A wreath was formed, a glorious thing!

As nature burst forth in celebration,
And the angels sang in jubilation.

The manger herb, Santolina bloomed bright,
To honor our Newborn King that night!

“St. John's Plant,” “Holy Hay,“ I indeed envy you.
As the Christ Child slept there in your arms,
May He rest in my heart too!
