Just Close Your Eyes
by Von E. Weeks

If you close your eyes I will be there,
Our bonds of love will be everywhere.
When you feel it’s very hard to cope,
Allow our love to bring you hope.
If you take a breath and focus inside,
You will feel me walking at your side.
When you smell a fragrance like mine,
My image will appear in your mind.
If you feel your problems are to much,
Allow yourself to remember my touch.
If you feel troubled deep in your heart,
Think of the wisdom I would impart.
May those who’ve loved me gently sift?
Remembering the moments that uplift!
Don’t waist time chasing a bitter WHY!
Fondly recollect the joys of days gone by.
The gift of life should be enjoyed with zest,
Find satisfaction and pleasure in every test.
If you feel a pressing need to morn or cry,
Please make sure I’m not the reason why!
Open your eyes and I’m sure you’ll see,
Through your love, I will live eternally.
"I wrote this poem for the funeral service of a dear
friend named Diane Vandaveer, who died of breast
cancer at the age of forty."
