If I Could Be Like Jesus
by Von E. Weeks

If I could be like Jesus, in all I do, and all I say,
I know that I could live in God’s kingdom someday.

If I saw myself through the eyes of other what would I see?
If I were more like Jesus what kind of a man would I be?

Love would be the first vulture planted deep in my heart.
Doing service for others would be a pleasure to impart.

Teaching God’s way to everyone would be my life’s quest,
I would love everyone, not just those who treated me best.

As I faced challenges, I would ask directions from above,
Imparting judgment would be done with the gavel of love.

The actions of sinners would not change the love I felt,
I would plead to God in prayer on their behalf as I knelt.

I would understand the difference between happiness and fun.
I would find a way to improve myself until my days were done,

A little child’s face would be like a rainbow of hope to me,
I would not see a man for what he is, but for what he could be.

Faith in God would be a power that steered my daily actions.
Submitting to God’s will would be my only satisfaction.

Being more like Jesus, I could make a difference to my fellowman,
I would be a person that God could use to fulfill his eternal plan.

Can I love God enough so I obey his every word and deed?
Can I love my fellowman enough to plant a Christ like seed?

Can I put on the whole armor of God, and live as I’ve been taught?
Will I use his example, teachings, and life or will they be for NOT?

He commanded us to become perfect step-by-step, line-upon-line,
He knew that even the worst of men their charters could refine.

So today, my goal is be more like Jesus than I was the day before,
If I continue on such a path I’m sure I can life with him once more.
