Hourglass of Time
by Von E. Weeks

Another precious grain passes through the hourglass funnel,
The velocity of each grain of sand seems to rapidly increase,
The many activities of our lives constrict time like a tunnel,
At times life is so swift we struggle to find a moment’s piece.

Often it is easy to spend far too much time on non-essential things,
We spend too much of life chasing the gold at the rainbows end,
We fantasize of the wealth, power and glory of queens and kings,
And ignore the value of a devoted family and the worth of a friend.

So do not dream of tomorrow, but rather take swift action today,
Ponder deeply what is important, and what things you should do.
Because treasured people and blessings can be swiftly taken away,
Make sure you live primarily in the present until your life is through.
