Addictive, Though Free
by Joyce C. Lock

The truth is, this world sucks.
If we're waiting for anything
(Outside of ourselves)
To make a lasting difference,
We have a long wait ahead.

Love, peace, happiness,
Joy, and the like exudes
From the inside out,
If it can be found
Anywhere at all.

It is our outlook and
Up look that makes any
Dreary day glad. Only,
It is not about our goodness.

It grows as our
Relationship with God grows;
Replacing darkness with light,
Despair with hope, sadness
With joy, and hate with love.

We do not read the Bible,
Pray, do good deeds, and such
For any measure of works.
We do whatever feeds the soul
Because we want it!

We need it! We choose it!
The highs get higher.
The sun shines longer.
Our days are brighter;
Our joy increased.

It is addictive, though free.
We pursue it because
it is not a generic substitute.
It really is the real thing!!!

The more we discover
What is real and true,
The more we come to realize
That all mankind are idiots in
Having chosen any other way.

And, we were, once, ignorant, too.
The next time you see temptation,
Call it what it is
(A generic substitute)
Then, go for the real thing.
