Animal and Nature

Mississippi River Flood
by Joseph A. Decker, Jr.

Transporter of water, across the midsection
of the land.
Weaving and winding, slowly eroding and
carrying your opposite to the sea.

Nothing can hold you, in your quest to
reach where you were born.

This time you have unleashed your fury,
you have played with man's barriers
and you have shown him who is master.
You have killed him, you have hurt him,
and you have won.

O great vein of earth, return to your
boundaries, to your limits, and live at
peace with us.
