Throw Me Back In Please
by Patricia Fritsche

Trapezoids of light
as they jump through cool, unsettled waters,
and out, from rings illusive.

Catching their cloak at precisely early dawn
lucky they are attracting,
you know who.

As they penetrate
the rippling chemistry
of moon river in her daily movement.

Adding peacock display to wallflower rocks
and disgruntled algae
just army green
and mud turtle design

they announce, discreetly,
they were touched
by the end's rainbow.

Before it is shed
their pearlized shingles
housing this fresh water fishy

given a fast shave
and drowned in lard in cast iron skillet.

To some after one bite,
they may have found
their "pot of gold" in this outdoor cuisine.
