Interstate Frenzy
by Carol Dee Meeks

A Memphis trip to home of son,
and traffic dense, but fast cars’ fun.
In Dallas paths the roads are wide,
with car in front, in back, each side.

Why does he live so far Away?
This trip is long and makes me pray
for safety lanes, I want to hide
from car in front, in back, each side.

A higher ramp with cars like gloves,
ramp underneath, and ramp above.
Too close, too fast, need map as guide
with car in front, in back, each side.

When journey ends, my heart skips beat.
My face is pale. My knees are weak.
My son just laughs, he knows I cried
with car in front, in back, each side.
