Big Twelve Mania
by Carol Dee Meeks

From the bottom of Texas
Stretching up to Nebraska
(with two slight detours),

The Heartland of America
Houses elite college basketball,
It is a seven state tour.

The Big Twelve
Will bring you miles
Of excitement,
Forget any indictment.

Across the plains
You’ll learn their names.
At their competitions
There’ll be no comprehensions
Of who or how they’ll seed
At season’s end or who’ll win.

The BAYLOR BEARS
Tip-toed in green
To the COLORADO BUFFALOES
And caused a bad scene.

The IOWA STATE CYCLONES
Disrupted fields in a row
Where the NEBRASKA CORNHUSKERS
Reap “Big Red” as their show.

The OKLAHOMA SOONERS
Would sooner lasso them a steer,
And the TEXAS LONGHORNS
Get tougher every year.

The MISSOURI TIGERS
Pride themselves to show-you-how,
And KANSAS STATE’S WILDCATS
Creep up for a big royal bow.

The TEXAS A. & M. AGGIES
And the COWBOYS of OKLAHOMA STATE,
Oversee the Plains and the Prairies
And enjoy a late date.

The KANSAS JAY HAWKS,
Usually ahead of the pack,
Fly over TEXAS TECH’S RED RAIDERS
Where the General is-without traitors.

You have youth in MISSOURI,
An ex-Duke guy.
A new coach at KANSAS STATE,
He has them sky-high.

The General is in LUBBOCK
With 800+ wins on his slate.
The SOONERS own most home court
Victories, as of February 2003 date.

There is wisdom over the COWBOYS;
His resume is quite long.
And IOWA STATE’S five year guy
Is coming on strong.

The AGGIES in College Station
Has turned rain into sun.
And in “BIG RED” country, their
Lone Senior is having fun.

The BUFFALOS have made history;
First NCAA appearance since 1969.
BAYLOR rains down three pointers
Blessed by the divine.

The LONGHORNS are steered toward
The Big Dance; schools he’s taken trio.
And the JAY HAWKS-impressive
Nice dresser, wild ties, he’s Lawrence’s hero.

There are coaches with credentials,
National Championships of four,
Players drafted to the NBA,
Fans, more fans than ever before.

It is a tuff conference
With talent galore.
Three pointers rain down.
They run up the score.

They just want more:
Excitement,
Competition,
Cities with a mall,
Media coverage,
Elite college basketball,

Big Twelve Mania.
Join us!!!
In March Madness, it comes after fall.
