Boys of Summer
by Carol Dee Meeks

Are housed in summer’s delight.
Parks tower toward the sky
And stretch out for city blocks;
Restaurants, vendors spinning like tops.

We still have Golden Oldies,
Boston Fenway’s Green Monster Wall.
Cincinnati Red’s Great American Ball Park
Opening this year, right before fall.

63,480 fans can watch
The San Diego Padre’s team.
And Chicago Cubs Wrigley Field
Saw lights at night-their latest yield.

Five parks draped with artificial turf;
Pools, rivers, close by able to surf.

Parks dawn names
Of America’s favorite brew:
Busch Stadium, Coors Field,
Miller Park-some old, some new.

Minute Maid Park houses the Astros of Houston;
Tropicana Field splashes Florida’s Devil Rays;
The orange container or the white one;
Healthy drink, night out of fun.

The House built by Ruth,
Yankee Stadium,
The best comes at last,
Since its construction, 80 years have past.

Inside these fences
Bloomed joy, sometimes gloom,
History, baseball’s future,
And America’s thrill.
A step up to the plate,
Our past-time does fill.
