"RADIO"
by Tom Zart

Radio was first used by ships at sea
To keep in touch with one another.
Airplanes used them to talk to the ground,
Or to contact a flying other.

Radio is our true companion,
For enjoyment or the latest news.
It informs us of headlines worldwide,
Or it awakens us from a snooze.

Marconi, the father of radio,
Proved to be the best of its pioneers.
Though he sent only dots and dashes,
Before long it brought voice to all ears.

In December of 1906,
Christmas Eve would be the first broadcast,
A man's voice and a violin with song
Started a venture that proved to last.
