Lament
by Denver Fredericks

How does the wind wail so mournfully?
Like a tragic consequence of untold loss
A heartfelt bitter lament sewn with grief
A way to make all take notice at all cost

Battered shores pounded by tides and storms
Know of this timeless lament and suffering
Scorched rock and deserts too feel the pain
Like tons of menacing pressure your soul wrenching

I think she is conflicted, bitter and harassed
Assuredly and convinced I am, maybe
Only a mother would know such magnitude
A scope of grief this immense most certainly

But you need to be silent, to give an ear
Listen with your innards, to past mistakes
Feel the intensity of the deep lacerations
And then have continuous hurt in retakes
