Laid to Rest
by Bernard Howe

'Tis a dark and gloomy day,
The sky is dark, a dismal gray.
As the wind chills me to the bone,
I hear the sound of a bagpipe drone.

Slowly we follow, for this is the end,
Soon the casket will begin to descend.
Down deep in the ground it comes to rest,
With a hand full of dirt we give him our best.

Memories of Dad are now all we possess,
Life must go on, as our sorrows suppress.
His pains are no longer, for he is at rest,
Taken to Heaven, now he has been blessed.
