RETROSPECT
by - Claude Peter Dhuet

As I look back at things I did, and things that I did not-
I wonder how many of the things I did-
Were things that I did right,
As I look back in retrospect.

There was this friend, who was really quite special-
This friend meant a lot to me-
Who was convinced of a theory he had-
Why did I have to disagree-
If I had said nothing, although I knew he was wrong-
Would the stars have fallen out of the sky-
As I look back in retrospect.

And when my son asked me to help him-
On a project that was assigned to him at school-
Did I have to say I was busy, maybe later-
The disappoint he showed was not cool.
If I put off what I was doing and helped him-
Would the earth have stopped in its orbit-
As I look back in retrospect.

A neighbor once asked me to help him-
With a task that was hard if alone-
I gave an excuse and he was hurt-
I knew that my refusal was wrong.
As I look back in retrospect.

There must be many things If I try to remember-
Things that I would never do again-
If only I had a chance to redo them-
As I look back in retrospect.
