The Advance of the Fall, by David Kessel

The summer's gone.
October's cherubs
Bring on the Autumn's cheerless cheer-ups
And doleful nymphs proclaiming ravage,
Ride jaundiced leaves and chant things savage.

The Father Fog
In his persistence
Will shroud in mist the local valleys.
The summer's past and gone existence
Will yield to Burning Autumn's rallies.

And as the summer's aging cession
Cannot resist the fall's agression,
Nor can the autumn try to hinder
The bleak and hollow breath of winter.
