Fields of Flowers
Claude Peter Dhuet

Beneath the soil where flowers grow-
Lies the tranquil bones of men-
Who in honor spilled their blood-
In hopes this battle they would win.

Nourished with their precious blood-
These flowers in happiness grow-
But the sadness that this rich soil hides-
These flowers will never know.

For no matter how much happiness-
They bring to those who survived-
They n’eer can bring the hopes and dreams-
Of the brave men who in battle died.
