What legacy shall I leave when I depart,
This so called vale of tears,
This place that nurtured and kept me,
For all these many years?

For I have not wordily riches,
Great castles have I none,
No great conquests have I made,
No battles have I won.

My literary expertise,
Leaves much to be desired,
No concerts have I written,
No songs have I inspired.

I really have no claim to fame,
No well known books to bear my name,
No paintings hanging can proclaim,
A talent worthy of acclaim.

But still I'd like to be remembered,
So bear with me if you please,
Gather you all around me,
And set my soul at ease.

And write upon my epitaph,
In letters that are clear,
The simple words that merely state,
The fact that I was here.
