I wonder what resides in me-
That unknown force that guides me-
To do the things I consciously do-
And things I do unknown .

Some people refer to it, as my ego-
That prompts me to do things I do not know-
Others say that it’s my conscience-
Put there by God long ago.

Of these profound thing, they boggle me-
For I have sparse knowledge of philosophy-
And other things that affects my mind.

But my hope is that whatever they be-
They will all take care of me-
And guide me to do what is considered right.

For I see and read from time to time-
So many misdeeds, and so much crime-
That whatever it is that’s guides my mind-
Will never prompt me to do what’s wrong.

So with these wishes I will trust Him-
The one I should have trusted to begin-
And put away all these other things-
That need not bother my mind.
