Time and Possessions by David Kessel

No matter what you strive to own,
On winds of time it will be blown
Away from you some time, some day,
To your displeasure and dismay.

Your pretty girl, your fancy car,
Your painting of a Russian czar,
Your home, your kids, your shiny yacht,
Don't mean much more than diddly-squat.

So while enjoyment they provide,
Out of your hands one day they'll slide
And disappear in Timelessness-
Thus it will happen, more or less.

Either they age and you lose *them*,
For Time's great flow you cannot stem,
Or you pass on to other realms
Since Time all workings overwhelms.

You'll lose the things that you held dear
As into Time you disappear,
Since nothing on this Earthly plain
Is meant forever to remain.
